  • We are sending a note back through the box
    • with an image of the idol
    • The note we got said: Helped Rantham. What idol?
      • Helped Rantham
        • This is a patron of the arts in Revenant
  • We are about to head back to town
  • We were in the tower for about 24 hours
  • We return to our horses and riding at about mid-afternoon
  • We stop to take a long rest
  • Overnight
    • I take the first watch
      • The idol has an aura of golden magic
      • I can see it even though it is in a bag
        • (rolled a 20)
    • Lorien has the second watch
      • (also rolled a 20)
      • Sees nothing
    • Cosimo
      • Falls asleep and has some rations stolen
    • Thranely
      • Looking for the stolen rations
      • Doesn’t find anything
    • Merkin
      • Sees a faery dragon as it steals more of Cosimo’s rations

Insect riding bandit encounter

  • Next morning, continue towards outwatch
    • 2 hours out (out of 4) from town
      • A man riding what seems like a large insectoid rides out in front of us
      • Has some serious weapons that have clearly been used
      • Behind us a group of bandits holding large bows pointing at us
  • Merkin is trying to talk up this guy
    • He compliments his insect
    • He’s trying to lie to him about where we’ve been
    • Merkin convinces the bandit leader to take 2 gold from 3 of our party to let us pass
      • I refuse and try to intimidate
      • Merkin convinces them to let us pass
      • I’m pretty mad about not being able to fight, but we move on
      • Merkin convinced them that were were lost in the woods for a long time even though we matched the description
  • We’re taking it slow down the road with two members flanking in the forest
    • We end up in a fight with the bandits
    • Thrainli binds them up in grass, many fall of their horse
    • We basically kick the shit out of the group and kill the leader and many try to run away
    • I loot the corpse of the leader
      • I find 12 gold plus the letter
    • I take parts of the ankheg carapace to make into bracers
  • We try to interrogate the bandits we captured
    • They say they were hired but don’t have information
    • They think a rich brat hired them
  • We send them back to Bobnut to work for him
    • We call them the icicles
  • We also get a sketch of the person who hired the bandits

Returning to Town

  • We slowly make our way back to town
  • We start to see more people on the roads
  • No inns
  • We find an out of the way area to camp
  • Thrainli and Merkin head to camp to get stuff
  • Merkin comes back with a pearl
    • Casts identify on the statue
  • Thrainli finds out the sketch is of the Baron’s nephew

Returning to talk to the Baron

  • As we go up the road toward the castle and knock on the gate we are greeted by a guard
  • 10 minutes pass and the gate is opened by the manservant who arranged everything
  • He asks if we were followed…we tell him they are dead
  • We hear a pair of feet dashing down the hallway
    • It’s the baron’s nephew
      • He asks us for the idol to give to his uncle
      • We are refusing
      • He orders us to give him whatever we were supposed to give to his uncle
      • Nephews name is Claudius
      • We pin down Claudius
      • The guards come and decide to take us to the Baron to settle things
  • We get to the Baron’s room with a person we assume is the Baron
    • He’s dressed in plate armor
      • With the helmet
    • Baron laboriously walks towards us
    • Buzzing overtones to his voice
    • I hand him the statue
    • He asks who has the sack on his head
    • We reveal it to be Claudius
    • Manservant tells us to leave the guards
      • He closes the door behind us
  • We follow the manservant and the Baron
    • There is a room that is emptied out the middle
    • And there is a ritual on the floor
    • Various objects in a circle
    • Baron puts the statue in the at a point in the circle and stands across from it
    • Manservant picks up an old tome and starts to put together some ritual
    • Merkin helps to do the ritual since he knows healing magic better
    • A deep pulsing sense of relief is felt and then magic is channeled into the Baron
    • The Baron breathes deeply and looks perfectly normal and healthier
    • Says he owes us a great debt
    • We help him get the armor off
    • He doesn’t stick anymore
    • Baron asks us to keep the info in confidence that we talk about
      • Info
        • Baron has been getting sicker and sicker
        • Felt his body changing and bones shaping
        • Felt like he was morphing rather than dying
        • Baron will take care of the problem of his nephew
      • We ask about Rantham
        • We ask for an introduction
        • We ask about other objects in the tower
          • We don’t get much information
        • I ask if we can keep the idol
          • Somewhat reluctant to give it us
            • We can use it whenever we wish
      • Rewards
        • Manservant is to take us to the armory and we can pick one thing
        • I take a hungering mace and pay to have it converted to a great axe
